Melbourne Airport International Terminal Expansion

The Melbourne Airport International Terminal Expansion includes a program of works which includes:

  • a new international check-in hall
  • expanded baggage claim areas
  • five new aircraft gates (capable of handling widebody and narrowbody aircraft)
  • additional retail, dining and lounge options, and
  • improved waiting areas. 

Preliminary works on the first stage of the international terminal expansion will begin following the opening of the Melbourne Airport Elevated Loop Road.

PROJECT HISTORY

Nov 2022 The Melbourne Airport 2022 Master Plan was approved by the Federal Government. The Master Plan included a number of planned developments for the international terminal.
Jan 2025 Melbourne Airport announced that it is working to finalise the details of an international terminal expansion, following 12 months of engagement with airline partners.
Feb 2026 Melbourne Airport announced that it had finalised the scope and staging of the program, and confirmed the total estimated cost of $4.5 billion.
