Smoky Creek and Guthrie's Gap Solar Power Stations

The proposed Smoky Creek and Guthrie’s Gap Solar Power Stations project involves the delivery of a solar farm and battery project, located across two separate sites. The project is being developed by Edify Energy.

The full scope of works includes:

  • a 720-megawatt solar farm

  • a 600-megawatt / 2.4-gigawatt hour battery energy storage system 

  • connection to Powerlink’s 275 kV transmission network, and

  • DC-coupled solar and battery architecture.

PROJECT HISTORY

May 2023 Edify commenced a public consultation phase on the project.
Oct 2023 The Federal Government granted environmental approvals for the project.
Mar 2025 Rio Tinto announced a power purchase agreement for 90 per cent of capacity of the Smokey creek wind farm and adjacent Guthrie's Gap solar farm.
Oct 2025 The project was awarded a Capacity Investment Scheme Agreement as part of the Capacity Investment Scheme Tender Round Four.
Mar 2026 DT Infrastructure selected as the preferred EPC contractor for the project.
