The Wave - Stage Three - Fleet, Operations and Maintenance

The Wave Stage Three will see a bus rapid transit network delivered between Birtinya and the Sunshine Coast Airport and upgrades to the road network at the Mooloolah River Interchange. Main works for the project are being delivered across two major works packages: the Civil Infrastructure Package and the Fleet, Operations and Maintenance package. 

The Fleet, Operations and Maintenance package comprises: 

  • Supply of a fleet of 18-metre, single-articulated battery electric vehicles. Vehicles are expected to have a capacity of 90 people.
  • Design and construction of a new operations and maintenance depot at Buderim, including vehicle charging infrastructure.
  • Operation and maintenance of the network from 2032 for a yet undefined period.

Funding contributions

A $40 million funding allocation for planning of Stages Two and Three was made in the 2025-26 Queensland Budget. No further funding for these stages has been provided.

Mar 2026 The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads opened a market sounding process for the package.
Jun 2026 A $40 million funding allocation for planning of Stages Two and Three was made in the 2025-26 Queensland Budget.
Aug 2026 Mott MacDonald and Arup were appointed Technical Advisor for Stage Three of the project.
