Theodore Wind Farm

RWE Renewables has proposed the development of the Theodore Wind Farm, a 1.1 GW wind farm that would be located 170 kilometres south of Rockhampton.

The project would include:

  • 170 turbines
  • a battery facility with a dispatch capacity of 240 megawatts. The project proponent has not announced the battery's duration
  • four substations, and
  • a potential for a future solar facility to be installed on site.

PROJECT HISTORY

2022 RWE Renewables announced the proposed project.
Jun 2024 The Theodore Wind Farm commenced consultation as part of the Environmental Planning referral process.
Oct 2024 RWE Renewables engaged Powerlink to finalise the location of a proposed 55 kilometre transmission line connecting the Theodore Wind Farm to the NEM.
Jan 2025 The Queensland Government issued directions to pause the assessment of the project to allow proponents to demonstrate that the appropriate community consultation and impact assessment have been undertaken. The pause is in effect for four months to 16 May.
Mar 2025 The project was included in the Federal Government's inaugural Renewable Energy Priority List. The Priority List aims to provide coordinated support through Federal, state and territory regulatory and environmental approval processes on a case-by-case basis and provide a 'faster to yes, faster to no' approach to regulatory approvals.
