Terminal and Specialty Works package involves main airport terminal, apron and airport facilities to accommodate up to 10 million passengers yearly. This comprises the construction of:
- terminal building
- plaza, and
- connections to the rail and bus stations, taxi ranks, carparks, roads, footpaths and all ancillary buildings.
The specialty works component includes the following sub-packages:
- the baggage handling system (procured separately)
- security systems
- information technology architecture and network
- aerobridges and fixed links
- apron and associated external utilities, and
- lifts and escalators.

Aug 2019 | WSA Co opened Registrations of Interest for the project. |
Oct 2019 | The Cox Architecture and Zaha Hadid Architects submission was announced as the winning terminal design. |
Sep 2020 | WSA shortlisted three bidders for the project - a Joint Venture between Lendlease Building and CPB Contractors, Multiplex and Watpac. |
Mar 2021 | WSA awarded the contract for the baggage handling system to Vanderlande. |
Jun 2021 | WSA awarded Multiplex the Design and Construct contract for the Terminal and Specialty Works package. Separately, the final reference designs for the terminal were released. Multiplex, in partnership with Arup, Woods Bagot and Airbiz, was expected to complete the detailed designs and begin construction by the end of 2021. |
Nov 2021 | The Federal Government announced that construction had commenced on the Terminal and Specialty Works Package of the project. |
Jun 2025 | The Federal Government announced the completion of construction on the terminal, with testing to commence ahead of the airport's expected operations commencement in 2026. |
